Since starting our club forum with SSBA, we’ve had a number or riders asking various questions about the track program.  So here’s a Q&A to help make everyone more informed about what the PSRA is offering.

How do you get to the track?

Just take Hwy #11 north from Regina towards Lumsden about 10 km.  Turn off at exit ‘C’ and make a left turn to go under Hwy #11 and you can see Three Flags Motorsports Park.  If you go down into the Lumsden valley, you have gone too far.

What types of bikes are allowed?

We've evloved to include full-size sportbikes, Supermoto and mini-roadracing bikes.  Riders of all ages, including kids 7+ yrs.  The smaller sportbikes (less than 750 cc) are more suited to the tight track, but we’ve had a number of riders come out and have a great time on 1000’s and 1100’s.  If you have a dirtbike, bring it out and give it a try to see if it’s worth putting Supermoto tires on.  Better yet, come out and get a demo ride on a mini-roadracing bike and be hooked forever.

The bottom line is we will endeavor to accommodate anything with two wheels and a motor.

What kind of modifications must I do to my bike?  Anything like taping the lights, remove mirrors, water only for coolant?

Your bike must be in sound mechanical condition with good brakes and tires.  No taping or water only.

Do I have to be an experienced rider?

Not at all.  Riders of all levels are welcome.  If you’re inexperienced and want to improve your riding skills, the track is the best and safest place to do this.  It offers a closed course with no pot-holes, gravel, lamp post or cars, where you can explore the capabilities of your bike and yourself as a rider.

How much does it cost?

First, in order to ride on the track, you must become a member of PSRA (this is a requirement of our liability insurance policy).  See our membership form for details, also checkout the SSBA site supporter discount program.

Second, a full day event costs $40 for adults.  Kids and family discounts are available. (check our events schedule for full day sessions).  The track runs a concession, where you can buy lunch and refreshments.

Third, an evening session costs $15

Is there any kind of training or tips from experienced riders?

The simple answer to that question is yes.  Although we don’t have certified instructors, several of our club members are experienced riders and track riders and racers.  Several of our members have attended the CMRA race school programs and track day events at Race City in Calgary.   For the track sessions, we utilize information provided by the participants to form groups of similar bikes and rider experience levels and place them with a group leader that will mentor and guide the group and provide a graduated introduction to riding on the track.  The focus is always on rider skill development, not speed.

Is there structure to the track riding or is it a free-for-all?

It is definitely not a free-for-all!!!.  There are strict track and lapping rules that will be enforced.  Prior to the start of riding, there is a rider meeting to review all safety requirements, track rules and track marshal flags.  We also have a written guide that riders can take away with them for future reference.  Following the riders meeting, there is a track walk/inspection, including any required clean-up.  Rider groups of about 5 riders have 10 minute track sessions (one group at a time).  For the first few sessions, the group leader will discuss and demonstrate specific riding skills or techniques.  As experience and comfort is developed, the group leader may allow other riders in the group to take turns in the lead position.

All types of bikes and rider levels are welcome as long as all safety requirements are met.

Do you ride in the rain?

No.  The track sessions will not run in the rain for safety reasons.  Every effort will be made to reschedule cancelled events.

Gear/personal protection requirements?

Here are the rider equipment requirements.

 Rider Equipment Requirements:

·        A D.O.T. or SNELL approved full-face helmet.

·        Full leathers (one or two-piece most recommended) or full textile motorcycle gear with appropriate armour.

·        Gloves that cover your wrists.

·        Boots that cover your ankle.

·        Back protector is optional, but recommended.

NOTE:  We do have a small selection of full leathers available to borrow.

If you have more questions that you’d like answered – just ask.

Do your leathers have to be the full waist length zipper or is a partial zipper (12" attaches rear of pants and jacket)?

Someone else asked that question in another thread and the response was that it's all good (and free) to come and watch.  The more the merrier.
