well im all for it.

i think (hope) this is just the beginning. i think that as SGI, as this program matures, will see places for improvement. im also sure they will hear ideas from people ideas on how they could improve.
a suggestion from me would be to look into some equipment requirements for riders. - more than just a helmet.
a more generous safe driver discount would be nice.  or, if thats not possible, keep the rates of the collective a bit lower and raise the repeat offenders rates a bit more. maybe a combination of both?

i wonder what each step includes for requirements. any word? oops, already asked!

great move on SGIs part. if they are really in it to save lives, im sure they will take feedback and look for ways to improve its system.

I've contacted one of the people in charge of the motorcycle GDL program at SGI, and am waiting for more information.

I had this wild idea for keeping crashes down when I was riding back to the house after dropping my girlfriend off at work.  Why not, instead of handing out that well nigh useless Motorcyclist's handbook (durrr, gee, now I know where throttle is, durr), why don't they hand out copies of A Twist of the Wrist.  I guarantee a decrease in crashes if they test based on that book.  I know it helped me tons, and am pretty sure there's others out there who can say the same (btw Jen, I still want my copy back Tongue )

Thanks guys.

I've been given the go ahead to post the Model Stages. I have updated the first post with details of each stage, as well the PDF document outlining the same thing.

I have a Q & A document that I am waiting for approval from SGI to post.

I guess it is good that there is going to be something in place.  The requirement of passing a course is a good step.  Too bad there is no HP or CC restriction.  This new program does nothign to stop Joe Rigguy from walking in and buying a new Gixxer 1000 and centerpunching a truck at the first light because it has a little more acceleration than his F-350.

Why bother with the M1 and M2 stages if they are going to be the same?  Why not just extend the first one to two years?

Hopefully one of the restrictions will be engine displacement(or horsepower like in France) related. It just makes sense. If you disagree, then you are as bad a squid as the clowns from this weekend.

I am not huge fan of the displacement because I don't think displacement is everything.  My bike is a perfect example, it's a forgiving and great starter bike, a nice medium between an inline four 600 and a 400-500.  At any rate, there needs to be some restriction and I look forward to seeing what there is for new riders.  Had I done it all over again... I'd of started on a smaller bike than what I did.  Now if riders are forced and there are more options for smaller modern (modern in the technologies they incorporate) sportbikes, hopefully things will change for the positive for motorcyclists.

That could be where a horsepower limit comes into effect?

Yeeeees.  I meant to mention rhinotheking's reference to horsepower in my post.  It's just displacement seems to be more common for discussion.

You really think its a good idea to give a 18 year old kid with a brand new GSXR-600 a book that says ROAD RACERS on the cover?  I don't know whats on the inside of that book and chances are **** good that the kid isn't gonna find out either before he offs himself .

Are you judging the book by the cover?  You should read the synopsis of the book before making a snap judgment.
